Paranormal AbilitiesBackground

World Information:
Eltanin is from a world of middling tech. Somewhere between renaissance and industrial eras. Countries are fragmented and often at odds with each other, as well as facing threats from outside sources such as vikings. One of the stabalizing forces in this world are the stellar mages, an organization of those who have mastered the use of one of the more powerful magics known on that planet. These mages mostly keep to themselves but will interfere when wars become too violent or when outside threats become too great. The stronger members have been known to live for ungodly amounts of time and rumors circulate they are no longer even human and that their magic comes from bargains with unholy powers.

Character Background:
Carlos Rozin was born to a travelling merchant of Vertez. Even as a child he had a keen interest in learning and was often known by the caravan to be reading books when not spouting off inane or unusual (and often irrelevant) facts. This was generally considered endearing until he also started spouting off gouts of flame. This was considered less endearing, but still tolerable as it was indicative of him perhaps being a wild mage or something along that nature. While dangerous, once under control these are often viewed as assets because of their many uses. However this changed when he started talking more and more about stars, allignments, and his zodiac sign of leo. Thus it was entirely impossible to ignore when a lion showed up on the day of his birthday and was tracked to Carlos' room where they found Carlos still getting dressed with a book on the basics of star magic open on his bed.

Stellar mages are considered to be bad luck by many as they invite the attention of higher beings whose attention are best not drawn. Furthermore they aspire to a level of power that is not meant for the non-divine and are generally shunned for this reason. Thus by popular demand, when Carlos refused to stop practicing or admit where he found the book (and it was suspected he had others hidden somewhere), his parents gave in and enrolled him at a bording school where he would be more free to study and the rest of the caravan would complain about him less. And just like that, he became the boarding school's problem. They were more tolerant of him studying star magic, but were less tolerant of his general antics, especially when he started teaming up with several others and formed a whole group of mischief makers.

Carlos and his merry band eventually graduated, passing the entrance exams for the dedicated Stellar Acadamy. Carlos continued to excel here, graduating with decent, though not 'stellar' marks. It was in the field that he distinguished himself, thinking of creative solutions to problems rather than brute forcing them with spells he did not necessarily have access to. After one event where he caused a fleet of invading ships to fall apart by dissolving the resin glue holding them together, he was admitted into the upper ranks where he took on the mage name 'Eltanin' and left his old name behind. He spent many years after that studying and practicing to master several of the spells that make stellar mages so unusual such as relative immortality. He has by now outlived several of his old college buddies, some of which he misses, others of which he fell out of touch with anyway. There are only one or two people he knew from his youth that are still alive and with him now vanished, they only have each other now.

Extra Information
- Stellar Cheat Sheet
  • Sun: Whatever natural properties a star has, within a certain proximity, the aspect of light usually overpowers any other aspect a star may have. Thus as the nearest star, the sun is primarily useful for light related aspects.
  • Meneldur: A planet of intensity. Depending on its location, may fluctuate the power of a spell in either direction. Can typically be accounted for and the spell adjusted accordingly.
  • Sabos: A planet of chaos. Will often cause unpredictable effects when called upon and often has to be specifically blocked so it doesn't alter other spells. Useful for gambling when no other options are useful.
[lu]Infinitas: As the world Eltanin is residing on, this planet is too near to properly impact Eltanin's spells and acts as a shield against the influences of stellar bodies beneath the horizon.
  • Moon: Similar to Luna, the moon is an aspect of change and reflection. It is a very passive magic and tends to flow along already set paths. Not useful as initiating new properties. Properties and their strengths vary with the phase of the moon.
  • Chrome: A planet of defense. Aspects of shield spells and properties of metal are stocks of this stellar body.
  • Firefox: A planet of fire and foxes. Playful in nature, not inclined towards harmful spells.
  • Drakis: A planet of weather and dragons. Majestic in nature and spells involving this planet trend towards a dramatic flare. Aspects extend towards general element of the sky, storms, and of course dragons.
  • Kronus: A planet of time. Typically lends itself towards aspects of aging more than youthening, but also possesses aspects of time magic.
  • Vulpes: A star distant enough to have effects other than light. Like Firefox, this is also a body with properties of fire and foxes, but it is far less playful and more solid and stately. The influences can overlap and interact with that of Firefox's, but in general this will lend itself better to offense spells with more power.
  • Other: The effects of other stellar bodies are subtler and will eventually lead Eltanin to a greater mastery with precision control over what he does. Without previous centuries of trial and error by predecessors however, he is forging new territory instead of being able to research optimal times for spells and compare them so mastery of these beyond the local bodies in the same solar system will be slow.
