|So, based on Jeff's 3P setting, I'm pondering running an adventure in Alt-3P, which takes place where the Hindu mythology came up sometime after the Greek/Norse/Egyptian one came to be. |
To confirm, I am looking to run the following:
Number of chars involved: 2-3 characters
Migrant length: Unknown
Adventure type: Exploratory
Potential long-term effects: Potential chance to pick up a 'mark' with permanent transformation effects
World: 3P-Earth, around 2025
3P Earth is where the Gods returned, creating three areas in Northern Europe, Southern Europe and Africa/Egypt where the Pantheons of the respective areas came back to life in 2001. A lot of displacement and disaster occurred, while the Gods had to deal with a technologically advanced human race. The 'realms' that formed were places where magic flourished, but technology falters as it is actively interfered with. The null-tech zone extends up into the atmosphere, influencing even Satellites that go over it.
Magic floruishes, while the various Gods play a game which only they know the rules and end goal for. Their pawns however remain active, marking people in the realms to each God in order to power them. Many people were forcefully transformed into various creatures during the initial incident, while transformations continue to this day with "Force Marks" which are intended on changing people so they are forced to stay in the realms.
The world outside remains at odds with the one inside - but at the borders, institutes have risen up that cater to expeditions going in as well as to forcemarks going out. These centers are a melting pot of cultures, pantheon-agencies and government agencies. Guides can be hired here, Pantheon studies occur regularly and more often than not it acts as a place for therapy for those that have been freshly forcemarked, offering them aid in their new lives and to re-adapt to their new bodies and the modern world.
In the 20 years that the realms have been around, things have changed significantly. THe gods play their games with each other. Some (such as Fenris) work with the outside world, but most focus inwards into their own kingdoms. In 2021 though a fourth Realm appeared, this time on the Indian sub-continent. It encompassed the southern part of the continent all the way up to a portion of Sri Lanka. The event happened with startling speed - and originated almost firmly with the arrival of a rocky bridge between the coast of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka.
The subcontinent was divided on this event - but with the experience of other Governments the humanitarian disaster from the actual realm-in was minimized somewhat. What claimed most of the lives was not the actual arrival of the realm, but the human reaction. The religious landscape in India had always been on edge between the Hindu majority and other minorities - one that was only made worse by the arrival of the realm in the South, where these tensions were at their peak compared to the rest of the country.
In the days following the arrival of the realm, the migration of people Northwards paralleled a similar one that had occurred almost a century before during the Partition of India. Tens of Millions of people fled North, fearing being Forcemarked, persecuted or otherwise rejected from their families should they get marked to the wrong God. The death toll from this migration, from the blockades at the border, from the resulting human famine and conflicts is unknown but has been estimated to at least be a million.
Today, 4 years later things are still at a knife's edge. The realm itself remains an unknown compared to the other three in the Euro-African region. The jungles that had been cleared for cities have returned in much greater force, communication is lackluster at best while most of the Gods present in it are uninterested in the world outside. In many ways, the Southern tip of the subcontinent is like it was in the 1800s: a deep, dark new world, ripe for exploration and exploitation - provided one can navigate the intricate politics of the kingdoms within.
